Book Recommendation

by T Hanson, member Greater Lewisville Chapter

The book I recommended is 'Frames of Mind' by Dr. Howard Gardner. As a parent, you can help teach your child the way he learns best by better understanding your child's learning style. Dr. Gardner developed the theory of Multiple Intelligence's which describes 7 different learning styles that are inherent in children: linguistic, logical-mathematical,
spatial, musical, bodily-kinesthetic, interpersonal and intrapersonal. Does your child prefer word games to jigsaw puzzles or drawing? Find and use your child's special talents to help him excel.

I'm also offering free to any FEMALE member a copy of the learning styles profile test that we use to help parents select the right software for their children. If interested, please contact T Hanson.

Tues. nights meeting is summarized below. It was followed by demos of software that meet the high-quality test plus apply to a variety of learning styles.

There's so much great children's educational software on the market today. Don't make your decision based solely on reading the back of the box. Try it out first if you can. Put the software you choose for your child to the high quality test.

The Essentials of Selecting Educational Software

  1. Interactive
  2. Open-ended and exploratory
  3. Appropriately challenging
  4. "Smart"
  5. Engaging and fun
  6. Encourages activities away from the computer
